People With Disabilities (WA) Inc is running workshops for families and carers of people with disabilities in rural and remote areas
Carers unable to attend last year’s metropolitan workshops, are invited to come along to the current workshops which will be video-conferenced to rural and remote areas.
The next metropolitan session will be held on Wednesday June 11th at 10.00am - 12.30pm at National Disability Services, 1/59 Walters Drive, Osborne Park and video-conferenced to rural areas. [Parking is available at the old Ikea site– next door to the NDS offices.]
Come along to talk with and learn from guest speakers, to develop awareness and advocacy skills and socialize and gain knowledge about the political system. This workshop will be video-conferenced to regional areas.
SPEAKERS for the next session on ‘How to understand and influence the political system’ are:
- Sharryn Jackson, Federal Member of Parliament,
- Dee Margetts, former Senator of the GreensLiberal Senator (Apologies received from Judith Adams, Liberal Senator, due to unavoidable circumstances)
- and Carol Franklin, parent of an adult, who has established a parent group, is President of Carers WA and is Family Network Officer at Developmental Disability Council.

Working Memory
What it is and why it is important for language development
PRESENT: Presenter: Donna Bayliss
Donna Donna is a lecturer in the School of Psychology at the University of Western AustraliAustralia and teaches teaches and supervises research students in the areas of working memory and cognitive developdevelopment. Much of Donna’s recent research has fousedfocused on developmental changes in working working memory ability across the primary school years and how these changes relate to educational achievement.
This talk will provide parents with information about
ü what is meant by the term ‘working memory’
ü the role that working memory plays in language development and learning in the classroom
ü current research aimed at improving working memory.
